Palm Sunday

Determined
Crazy maybe
Focused
For certain
He would not be moved
What was he thinking?
Passover or not…
Who in his right mind would go into
A place
Where people
Were plotting against him..
even wanting to threaten his life?
They didn’t think they would
Well.. really they couldn’t
Do anything
Here
Without Rome’s approval
What couldn’t they really accuse him of anyway?
That could get Rome’s attention?
An upstart rabbi
Sure
But
The leaders would have to be
Devious
To do more
Surely not that ..they thought…
But a riot ?
That was totally possible
Uncontrollable crowds
The city overfull
Violence
Was a real possibility
Yet up he went
He wasn’t to be stopped
Resigned to the chaos
Before them
Before him
They followed
They hoped he had a
backup plan
A donkey
Really?
And not even a fully grown one
A colt…
Humility
Seemed to be his strong suit
Yet they went
Feeling like fools
Approaching a stranger
At his insistence
He had even given them a non-convincing
answer
To use
Yet …
Like a dawning light
The man’s face changed
As is recognising
A line from a far off tune from childhood
He turned with glistening eyes
Fumbled to untie the rope
And shaking
Handed
Over
The colt
Well.. something was happening ….that was for sure
By the time they got back
A crowd had formed
In the heat of day
Cutting branches from trees
And bushes
They assembled along the way
As sentinels
A crowd
Casting down their cloaks
On the road
Making a carpet
As if welcoming royalty
But these clothes
Were of the needy
The unemployed
Beggars and
Outcasts
welcoming
Him
Welcoming
A homeless rabbi
Riding
Upon a colt
Yet ..shout they did
Hosanna
A throng
Of joy
Not violence
A victory march
As they followed him into the city
Lining the streets within
Jesus
Welcomed
Came in
Jesus joyous
As they has ever seen him
Greeting each person
As they were the only one
In the crowd
Jesus… their king ..
On they followed…..
And on…
They
Followed
